Clark was a opponent of segregation in every way and had died with his vision of any integrated society would be achieved. His Famous experiment was doll studies on the harmful effects of racism on black children. With the experiment that the girls replicated i was shocked about what the young people said when they asked what doll looks bad and they point to the black doll and say that they chose this because it was black. I feel like only because of the different color that is why they replied with this. I believe that this experiment shows that people all have different beliefs of people and there can be so many different results with different types of people. I think its horrible for young people at that age to believe that the bad doll is black and the good doll is white.

1.Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was an African American psychologist. In his famous experiment he asked African American children to choose between white and black dolls on which one looks pretty or which they find is the bad doll.
2.Its sad to see that even with all we’ve gone through the years to see all nationalities as equal it is still perceived that white is good and black is bad and that all the stereotypes are still going and making them question themselves is also sad.

My response to the video was shocked and appalled. I felt this way because I thought the social view on African Americans and Caucasians changed completely during the years from the 1950s to the 2000s, but in the video it showed differently. When they did the test with the different colored skinned dolls, 15 out of 21 African American kids chose the Caucasian doll. This proves that our society still has problems with race and it's effecting a lot in our daily lives even if we are unaware of it. There should not be any inequality between any races, but even today there still is, even in one of the most diverse nations in the world.

Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was an African American psychologist. In 1946 he and his wife founded the Northside Center for Child Development. Their clinical work led to several studies showing the negative effect of segregation on the self-esteem of African American children. His famous experiment was in 1947, he asked African American children to, "Give me the pretty doll" or, "Give me the doll that looks bad." He reported that most children preffered the white dolls over the black ones which demonstrated that they felt society as a whole preffered white people.
The fact that someone reenacted the same experiment three years ago and got the same results is disturbing. It deffinately proves that there is still segregation and it is effecting African American children. Something definately needs to be done to get the idea of unequality out of thier heads.

I think that the girl who recorded the video was trying to get a point across that people still do not feel comfortable about their skin color. She showed that most african american children chose the white doll over the black doll and they said because it was the nice doll. I do not understand why they thought that just because the doll was white it was nice. I wonder what the little girl thought when she said the black doll was the bad doll and then said it was the one who looked like her. I personally think that color should not have anything to do with being pretty or ugly. Also with good or bad.

Dr. Kenneth Clark was an African American psychologist. Unlike most African Americans at the time, he went to an academic high school, and not one where he would have learned specific skills for certain jobs. He went to Howard University where he met his wife, Mamie Phipps. They studied the negative effects of segregation on African American children. His famous experiment was to present African American children with a white doll and a black doll, and ask them to choose the "nice" one. He found that most of them preferred the white doll and that society's racism had even penetrated the minds of these children.
When some young women recently repeated this experiment, they found that 15 of the 21 children preferred the white doll. Although it was on a smaller scale, it seems like self-esteem is still low among African American children today because they believe that it is better to be white. This surprised me quite a bit; I did not think that the children in the more recent experiment would still feel as though white was better than black. This is dismaying; racism is still very much alive in our country.

1)Dr. Clark was a famous doctor in the Brown v Board of Education trials. He is famous for his experiment of having black children pick wither a white or black doll and say which one they liked more.
2)I had heard of this experiment before watching the video. However, I was surprised when so many black children favored the white doll in this day of age. Seems to show that there are still alot of insecurites, and that we may not have come so far.

I thought this video was very informative because it sheds light on an inner struggle for African- American women that normally you wouldn't be able to see. I learned a lot about their search for an identity and how much our nation still needs to grow in terms of acceptance.

1.Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was an African American Psychologist who did an experiment with dolls to see how African Americans viewed themselves. He took different color dolls one white and one black and asked young African Americans which doll the thought was better, and which one they thought was safer.
2. My reaction towards the experiment that the young woman replicated is surprised. One would think that an African American kid would prefer the dolls that look like them. They should feel that a black doll means safety becuase that is the color of their own skin but even now they think that it means anger and badness. I think that parents should teach African Americans that it is okay to be different and that it is not important to want to be like everyone else. I think that in this day an age it is okay to be different and that no one should prefer a different color doll, they should both be equal.

The video reflects on the views teenage girls have on girls just like them and what society makes people seem to be. I think it doesn't matter how you look and you shouldn't be judged by apperance or skin color. Your skin color and apeereance don't make you a good or bad person, like society makes people to be perseved as.

1. Who was Dr. Kenneth B. Clark?
in segregated schools in the brown vs board of education in the 1950s, he conducted a famous experiment.
What was his famous experiment?
letting young children chose which doll they'd rather play with, the dark skinned one or the light skinned one & asking them which doll they think is a good doll.
2. What is your reaction/explanation toward the experiment that the young woman replicated?
i was surprised the children chose the one that didn't look like them as good, and the one that looked like them as bad.

The video "A Girl Like Me" is a video where African American girls speak out about how they really feel about their skin color. They're speaking out for every race when they say they are not happy with the way they look. Either too dark or too light, it is a nation wide problem of insecurity. Though most will never admit they are unhappy, the people that do speak out are the people that have a chance to get help and try to feel better about themselves.
1. Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was once of the most regarded black social scientists in the United States. He mainly worked on the psychological effects of racism. His famous experiment was studying the harm done by segregated schools. He showed black and white children dolls of different racial make-ups to black children. Most of the black children chose the white doll.
2. I thought that what the girls did with the babies was so sad. I thought it was terrible that all of those black children thought that their own race was evil. I thought the experiment was interesting though.

1) Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was an African American psychologist. He conducted an experiment where he would find the responses to a black child's self image. He did so by having the child choose between a white and black doll and ask them questions about each doll.
2) I was shocked by the video and the responses of the children and young african american women. It is upsetting to hear that the african children and girls have a negative opinion on their own culture. I believe that the reason the girls and children think the way the do about themselves is because media and the way african americans are stereotyped.

Dr. Kenneth was a psychologist and his famous experiment was when he got a white doll and a black doll and got african-american kids to pick which one was there favorite one.
I thought the video was kind of messed up the way that the kids all chose the white doll and they would say that the other one was bad or mean just because it was black. I also never really realized how hard life could actually be for a dark-skinned african-american girl. It was pretty sad to see that they had such a hard time fitting in sometimes.

Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was black psychologists who famously came up with the experiment that tested the effect of racism on African American children.

The first time that i saw "A Girl Like Me," was in ninth grade. I was astonished by the video as much as i was the first time that i saw it. This video is really sad. I feel bad that people with an African heritage feel that way. The documentary is the part that really surprised me. I cannot believe the little girls' reaction when they asked her which doll looks like her. She was ashamed of being African. I feel lucky that i know where i come from and i can trace my ancestors really far back.

1. Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was a sociological psychologist. His famous experiment was placing two dolls before a group of children, one white and one black, and asking the child to select the "good" or "nice" doll.
2. My reaction to the experiment is that it is unfortunate, but not surprising. Since blacks were on the negative end of segregation we often have many predetermined notions about that ethnic group even today. Particularly in children this young.

1.Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was a phsycologist who conducted a famous research about children and how they view different racial groups. He did this by taking a young group of children and giving them two dolls, a caucasian one and an African American one; with this he asked the children various questions about each. One question was which one do you perfer, or which one is bad or not.
2. My reaction of this experiment that the young group of women conducted, was that some young children still few the same thoughts as they did when Dr. Clark tested this experiment. It makes me sad to think that some young African American children are ashamed of there color, and that they would perfer to be someone else.
Dr. Kenneth B. Clark is a psychologist who, with his wife, did many experiments using dolls. Their most famous one showed that black children preferred to play with the white doll. This video makes me hope that in the future there will be a time where everyone won't worry about race as much as they do now.

I think it's wrong that kids and people have a steriotype about different races. And when they asked the children which doll was the nice and which was the bad, most of them picked the african american one as the bad. We shouldnt have that in our heads. There are plenty of bad white skinned people just like there are many good african american people. Hopefully that is something we can im prove on in the future.
For me, i think that Dr. Kenneth B. Clark's experiment is a little misleading. i do not think the children choose the white doll over the black doll becase "black people are bad" but more because the color itself is associated ewith negative thoughts. White is suppose to represnt purity and innocence where as black is assocated with death and also power, which might not necessarily be a good thing, especially to young kids.

1. Dr. Kenneth Clark was a psychologist whose famous experiment with African American girls picking between a Black doll and a White doll.
2. My reaction is that the children see the white doll as the normal and the black doll as different. I think they see it that way from TV and movies that the majority is white. I don't think it has to do with how they are raised because I can't imagine that they are all raised the same and that there parents would teach them that. I believe that their decision is based on their surroundings and environment.

Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was an African American psychologist who performed an experiment on young children. Dr. Clark wanted to see which doll, an african american or a white doll, children would rather play with. I was quite surprised to see that children perfer to play with the lighter skined dolls. The girl like me video showed us that even today children both black and white prefer the white doll over the black doll. I was shocked to see that the black dolls were associated with bad and the white with good just because of their skin color. I would have thought that children in today's society would not come to these assumptions.

The video was really interesting. It was really neat that the girl redid the experiment. The results were amazing. Many of the black children chose the white doll as the "good" or "nice" doll. This really makes me think. Children of that age are barely exposed to racism, so what makes them choose the dolls they do? Its a tricky subject.
1-kenneth b. clark was an african american psychologist. his most famous experiment was the baby doll experiment. he took a darkskinned doll and a light skinned doll and asked children of all races to pick the pretty doll and most of them picked the lighter skinned doll.
2-i was kind of suprised at some of the choices of the little kids. like i wouldnt expect the majorirty of them to still picked the lighter skinned doll only because to me skin color isn't a big deal and i don't think that kids that young should be brought into not exactly discrimination but going against themselves because of what others think and what others want them to think.

It is sad to see that someone doing the same experiment just three years ago is getting the same results that a majority of the children perfer the white doll over the black one. I feel that even though the race does not seem like that big of an issue in today's society, we can tell that it is not true by looking at the experiment conducted with the dolls. It seems to me that it is just wrong how the children are taught to associate white with good and black with bad. Both white people and black people should be equal. Also, I understand that young African-American females face a lot of pressure to assimilate with the American culture. Especially, since the video was made in New York, there are many different ethnic groups that live there. Each one of them has their own culture and beliefs, therefore it is hard for African-American girls because they want to be individuals, but since they do not know anything about where they came from or what their native culture is like, they tend to want to be more like someone else. They should not have to try to be like someone else, but rather embrace their own ethnicity and beliefs.

1. Dr. Kenneth B. Clark was a psychologist who was Africa American. His work related largely to segregation, and its negative affects. His famous experiment was the doll experiment. He showed an African American and a white doll to children, and, in most cases, the kids chose the white doll to be the nice one. This demonstrates how societies racial values generally favor the white population.
2. I think it was a neat idea to replicate the experiment to see if societies' values have changed in recent years. The results showed that whites are still considered the nice ones in society. I think this is wrong and that people are equals. I was surprised to see that even African American children chose the white dolls to be the nice ones as opposed to the African American dolls. Society as a whole should not give such a negative impression regarding race.

Dr. Kenneth B. Clark tested african american children during the civil rights movement... I think? P;
I think that most african american woman assimilate just to feel like they look 'normal', which brings us to the point, what is normal in everyones mind? Because I know and understand that no one is alike to anyone, but they are alike in the way that they want to appear 'normal'. We judge people cause in your mind you quicky process.. why does that person look so different compared to me? Its not just african americans that harbor that thought, but everyone and anyone of any race. Some grow up to not care because of their surrounding, but some are put down for their whole life, so its hard to adapt to new thoughts on yourselves or on others.

1. Dr. Kenneth Clarke was an African American psychologist who was extremely active in the Civil Rights Movement and studied the behavior of children with regards to racism and other topics. He was responsible for many advances in the study of racial intolerance and segregation and founded the Northside Center for Child Development as well as Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited. He was also the first African American President of the American Psychological Association. His famous experiment was the "doll experiment" which proved the severity of the impact of racial intolerance on African American children and all children exposed to it. African American children were asked to choose whether they'd rather play with a black or white doll and the vast majority chose white. When asked what doll looked "bad" most children chose the black one even though they themselves were black.
2. The experiment replicated in the video showed me how serious the issue of racism still is and proved that although schools and all other public facilities are integrated, racism and intolerance are still present in America. I thought it was sad that the kids viewed the black doll as "bad" because it is essentially a representation of the shame they feel for their own identities. It was extremely interesting that the experiment worked just as well as it did when Dr. Clark conducted it so many years ago, because people would assume that we as a nation have made such improvements in equalizing all people when in reality there is still a distinct separation between different ethnicities.

In his famous experiment he used dolls to show the effects of segregation. He had a white doll and a black doll and he had african american children pick which doll was better, most of which picked the white doll. It shows what segregation did to the children's self esteem.
It shocked me to see that the results didn't really change at all. It shows that even today kids are effected by racism and its really sad to see the children feel that way. Those kids didn't look older than four years old and they are already thinking negatively and it's really sad to see. I was also shocked to hear what the girls had to say. It's really sad that they feel that way because they shouldn't. The whole video shows that nothing really has changed.

Dr.Kenneth B. Clark was an African-American psychologist who conducted experiments concerning race relations. In his most famous experiment, he presented several African-American children with a black doll and a white doll. He then asked questions such as: "Which is the nice doll", or "Which is the good doll". Most of the children selected the white doll as the favorable one.
I was surprised by the outcome of the experiment. Over 50 years after Dr. Clark's experiment, the results were similar. I would have expected the majority of the children to choose the black doll, which was the opposite of the actual outcome. I think part of the results can be contributed to some of the girls claim in the film that "lighter skin is better". This could be in children's heads, therefore influencing them to choose the white doll.
Kevin Donnelly - Period 5
Dr Kenneth B. Clark was an African American psychologist in the Civil Rights Movement. His famous experiment consisted of using dolls to study children's attitudes about race. Most children chose the white skinned dolls rather than darker ones when asked which they preferred.
I was not shocked by the outcome of the experiment. The world we live in today is still full of segregation just as it was in the past. Many times when a crime occurs, like a shooting or robbery, it is assumed that the criminal was black. Because of that, there is so much negativity associated with African Americans, and children don't know any better but to believe what they see. When they experience the racism, they feel as if they are less "valuable" than the white people that are making these racist comments.

Also i was shocked by the experiment Dr. Kenneth B. "A girl like Me" was a prime example of how most African American females see and feel about themselves. Being caucasian or light skinned has been made out to be a sign of superiority and beauty in past and today's time, which has left a stigma of inferiority on the psychological states of those who do not have this skin complexion or feel that they are not up to par with those who do. The young girl who conducted this film is actually light skinned herself and notices the issue of the theory of "perfect beauty" in today's society. Society, television, radio, and many other nationwide influences are pelting the minds of these young females, even some males, making them feel that they have to look a certain way to be fully accepted into society , by boys/girls, or even by the world. And after the conducting of Dr. Clark's experiment during the civil rights movement, both when he conducted it and when this young lady conducted it, it was clear as to how heavy a major this issue is on, not only our teenagers and preteens, but on our children. Somethig has to be changed in order to fix the views of society and quick, because this race issue may cause the growth a progress of the African American community to become some what stagnant.

I think that it's very upsetting that even after our country has come so far in the last 60 years, this experiment is producing the same results. It is up to our society as a whole to change this, now.
I had no idea african american women had there own identity problems. Like how being light skin was better then being darker. I dont understand why the african american children picked the white doll over the colored doll. I need a better explanation on that.

I do not think darker African Americans are ugly but yeah i do see lighter African American girls to be pretty. But i also think that people should not conside on the fact of darker and lighter people to the fact of pretty and ugly. Everyone is pretty in their own way. I do not think that white poeple are nicer than African Americans. It all depends on the person not the color of your skin. I was shocked to see that when the girl in the video conducted the experiment that most of the kids said that the white dolls were nicer and cleaner looking and the black dolls were dirty and ghetto looking.
I think the video was kinda sad because the african american females down grade themself and the comments they recieve from other people. Also i didnt like the part when then yuong african americans chose the white doll over the black.Basically i think all this comes from advertisement,tv,school, ect.I say that because they treat whites different from blacks.then they make light skin girls think their more prettier than dark skin girls.

In his most well-known experiment, he tried to observe the effects of segregation and racism on young African American children. Years later, this experiment was replicated by a high school student with similar results. The video shows just how people still associate emotions and persumptions about a unique set of people today as they did with the original testing. It kind of surprises me that this is still the case even though the civil rights movement was almost a decade ago. The movie shows that while times may change, people do not.

I thought it was a really bad thing that African-American women think that light skin is better than dark skin due to the society we live in. In todays culture there are to many things in America that say what is beautiful and what is not. Even most of the young African-American children choose the white doll over the black doll.
